As much as I hate the film – you’ve read my review – it seems other people don’t share my views. So much so that first day sales of the blu-ray/dvd have set new records.

According to Deadline Hollywood’s Nikki Finke, quoting sources from 20th Century Fox, the Blu-ray edition of Avatar has sold 1.5 million units in the US and Canada during its first-day and has thus “blown away” the record for first-day Blu-ray sales, until now held by The Dark Knight, which had sold 600,000 units in December 9, 2008.

Coupled with the news that James Cameron is about to start work on Avatar 2, which will explore the oceans of Pandora this time as well as more of the jungle.

Sadly the Ash Cloud didn’t stop sales as much as I anticipated.
